Jelly Belly Recommits, Adds Presenting Sponsor and Riders
The Jelly Belly Candy Company of Fairfield, California — the longest running sponsor in the US pro peloton — has reaffirmed their commitment to professional cycling and extended their primary title sponsorship of the Jelly Belly Cycling Team for two-years. Known for their colorful jerseys that feature the company's signature candy and and the sports performance, Sport Beans ®, the team also announced a new presenting sponsor for the 2010-2011 season, Kenda Tires.
With the commitments from Jelly Belly and Kenda Tires, Team Director Danny Van Haute was able to sign several new riders: Mike Friedman, Anthony Colby, and Jonathan Chodroff. The most notable of the new additions is Friedman, formerly of Garmin-Slipstream. A member of the 2008 US Olympic Track Cycling team, Michael "Meatball" Friedman had one of the more memorable rides that same year, leading the break and finishing twelfth in the Belgian Semi-Classic, Het Volk.
Colby, a veteran climber, along with Chodroff, a time trial specialist, are expected to bring a depth to a veteran Jelly Belly squad that features five stalwarts in Brad Huff, Bernard van Ulden, Keil Reijnen, Will Routely and Jeremy Powers. To add more spark, Sena Mazich and Kaevin Stolier, both move up from the Waste Management team, Jelly Belly's feeder team, while Jacob Rathe and Carter Jones will ride for the U23 National Team and will join Jelly Belly at key races.
Jelly Belly Cycling presented by Kenda plans to contest the NRC Calendar in the US and several UCI races overseas. Team camp begins February 9 in San Marcos, Calif.
More new sponsors signed for the season and providing equipment are Focus for bicycle frames, Pactimo apparel and DeFeet socks.
