Thomson wins in Wellington New Zealand

Wellington, New Zealand – Fly V australia’s new South African signing Jay Thomson today won a hotly contested stage 3 at the Trust House – Tour of Wellington.

Starting today’s stage 3 wearing the Sprint leaders jersey and 1 minute 45 seconds back in 3rd place overall aggression would reward the daring and lucky. In the longest stage of the Tour but not the toughest terrain wise it was more luck that Jay needed to move further up the leader board.

When the dust settled on the racing Jay remained in third spot on GC but moved 15 seconds closer to the leaders.

Team Sport Director Henk Vogels said, “Jay was incredible today, he was motivated to try and get closer to yellow and went on the attack early. For the final 50 k’s Jay received little assistance from his breakaway companions and was pulling 1-kilometer turns. For him to still out kick the bunch and the rest of the break bodes well for the future.”
