Team Vera Bradley Foundation’s Farina Climbs To 4th Place At Glendora Mountain Stage
San Dimas, CA - Under sunny skies and warm temperatures, Robin Farina rode to 4th place at the Glendora Chevrolet Hill Climb Time Trial during the 2010 San Dimas Stage Race. Farina bested her 2009 time by 20 seconds. Peanut Butter and Co. Twenty12's Mara Abbott took top honors, blazing the course in 14:30, with HTC-Columbia's Evelyn Stevens in 2nd and Peanut Butter and Co. Twenty12's Alisha Welsh in third. "That was a hard effort today," stated Farina. "I guess I went hard enough, because I puked after it was over!"
Eighty-six women started the race today, with a field full of some of the strongest riders in the world. Squads represented at the race include HTC-Columbia, with defending champion, Ina Teutenberg, TIBCO, Colavita and Peanut Butter and Co-Twenty12. Team VBF's Alexis Rhodes was 20th, Lauren Hall 35th and Alison Testroete was 44th. "Tomorrow will be a totally different race," said Rhodes. "Lots of time bonuses on the line, so a lot can change. We're going to make those changes happen!"
Tomorrow's stage is a 56 mile circuit race in Bonelli Park, which features 8 laps of a 7 mile course. "The course has a bit of everything," says team director, Lisa Hunt. "It's got rollers, climbs, a technical descent and some flat stretches. The race has seen a breakaway for the past several years. I wouldn't be surprised if it happens again."
