Linden, NJ - Theresa Cliff-Ryan and Carmen Small (inset) of the Colavita/Baci Women’s Cycling Team presented by Cooking Light stood atop podiums as representatives of the US at international cycling events in Mexico and France.
Michigan-native Cliff-Ryan won the gold medal in the women’s points race on the track at the Pan American Road and Track Championships in Aguascalientes, Mexico. She was also the highest-ranked US rider in the scratch race, with a 4th-place finish. Cliff-Ryan’s win at the track marks her second gold medal at the Pan Am Games. In 1999, Cliff-Ryan added the gold medal in inline skating in the women’s track combined long distance event to her 29 world championship titles.
Four years ago, Cliff-Ryan shifted her extraordinary sprinting skills to cycling and made her debut in the North American peloton. In her first season riding with the Colavita/Baci Women’s Cycling Team, Cliff-Ryan has claimed five victories and won the overall USA Criterium Speedweek Series. She currently ranks in the top 25 of USA Cycling’s individual rider standings.
Cliff-Ryan’s Colavita/Baci teammate Carmen Small of Durango, CO took third in stage three of the Tour de L’Aude. Small finished in the top three for all of the intermediate sprint competitions and advanced to 12th in the general classification. This is Small’s first appearance at the Tour de L’Aude, ranked with the Giro d’Italia as one of the top races on the UCI women’s calendar. The race is known for its windy conditions, big climbs and steep, narrow descents.
Now in her second season with the Colavita/Baci Women’s Cycling Team, Small is using her strength and versatility to deliver impressive results. Currently #7 in USA Cycling’s women’s individual standings, Small has so far captured two overall wins and six podium finishes. Most recently, she won the stage two road race and sprint competition at the SRAM Tour of the Gila, one of the most challenging stage races on the NRC calendar.
