About Meredith Miller
Years of selfless service on the road for TIBCO, Aaron’s, Lipton, SATS and the U.S. National team earned Meredith Miller a reputation as the ultimate team player. After building a name for herself as super domestique, she surprised everyone, including herself, when she won the U.S. National Road Championships last year.
“The title, National Champion, was a huge confidence booster,” said Miller. “I rode to represent the stars and stripes to the best of my ability. My cyclocross season far exceeded expectations, too.”
Meredith finished 2nd at U.S. Cyclocross National Championships last year to earn a spot on Team USA at Worlds. Her 12th place finish in Tabor was the top American finish. Meredith’s main objective for the 2010-2011 season is to once again represent her country at the Cyclocross World Championships.
While Cyclocross is one of the fastest growing segments within cycling, it is one of the least supported. Meredith will use donations from this fundraiser to finance expenses associated with her 2010-2011 cyclocross season.
About California Giant
California Giant is a family owned company based in Watsonville, California committed to finding the perfect berry for its customers. As a grower-shipper of fresh berries, California Giant contributes to the health of American consumers by providing an abundant, healthy and delicious product. In demonstration of its commitment to partner with organizations that send positive messages about the importance of combining diet and exercise as part of a healthy lifestyle, California Giant sponsors the California Giant/Specialized Cyclocross and Road Team. The upcoming cyclocross season will be Meredith’s third season riding for the ‘cross team.
About Cyclocross
Cyclocross is often called a mix of road racing and mountain biking. Competitors race laps around a course featuring a variety of surfaces including pavement, grass, sand, dirt and mud -- last year at Worlds, Meredith even rode on ice! Racers must negotiate obstacles that require dismounting and remounting their bicycles. Races are typically about one hour in length and held on courses of less than two miles in length.
The cyclocross season begins in the fall and spills into winter. Once a popular, off-season training option, cyclocross has become a popular discipline in its own right.
