Peanut Butter & Co.TWENTY12 Goes First & Third To Open The 2011 Sea Otter Classic
One Fast Mother, Kristin Armstrong Takes Stage 1 SRAM Criterium, Rivera Third
The four-strong Peanut Butter & Co.TWENTY12 team was simply dynamic in the first stage of the Sea Otter SRAM Criterium. From the opening gun, Kristin Armstrong, drove a vicious pace to set the tempo for the first five laps of the race, and subsequently left a wake of destruction behind.
Primal/Map My Ride and Missing Link Coaching Systems made several attempts to wrestle away control of the race from the new mother and her Peanut Butter & Co.TWENTY12 teammates, but each missive was quickly and decisively thwarted.
TIBCO/To The Top's Jennifer Wheeler was active throughout in pursuing sprint points. Coryn Rivera(Peanut Butter & Co.TWENTY12) would also show herself as she countered an intermediate sprint with a solid effort to gain a gap on the start/finish hill. Vanderkitten & TIBCO riders worked well together to pull back the “five-foot assassin,” but in turn towed Armstrong & Peanut Butter & Co. TWENTY12 teammate Olivia Dillon back up front, who kept the pace high for the remainder of the race.
Dillon and Alisha Welsh played a vital role in the closing laps of this long criterium course. Alisha known more for her goat like climbing prowess, buried herself and drove the pace heading into the last lap. Then it was Olivia's turn at the front. “She chews nails” Dillon adeptly deposited Armstrong & Rivera at the final turn where Armstrong proceeded to lay down big watts in the final 250 meters finishing it off with a bike throw, the second of her life. Samantha Schneider (TIBCO/To The Top) took 2nd with Coryn Rivera a very close 3rd.
The victory marked Kristin's first win since becoming a mother. She will wear yellow today on the very challenging Fort Ord road race course.
