Theresa Cliff-Ryan, Andrea Dvorak, and Heather Logan-Sprenger to Represent Colavita/Forno D’Asolo US Squad at 10-Stage Race
Edison, NJ - Theresa Cliff-Ryan, Andrea Dvorak, and Heather Logan-Sprenger of the Colavita/Forno D’Asolo Pro Cycling Team presented by Cooking Light will join teammate World Road Champion Giorgia Bronzini on the starting line for the 2011 Giro d'Italia Internazionale Femminile/Giro Donne. Directeur Sportifs Rachel Heal and Franco Chirio made the announcement.
Covering close to 600 miles (962.1km), the 10-day Giro Donne is the longest and most challenging stage race on the women’s calendar. The 10-stage race begins on July 1st in Rome and concludes on July 10th in San Francesco al Campo di Turin.
“We are very pleased that our team has been selected for the Giro Donne,” said Giovanni Colavita, CEO of title sponsor Colavita USA. “This year is particularly exciting for us as World Champion Giorgia Bronzini shares our Italian heritage and she will compete in this most prestigious race in our home country in Colavita/Forno D’Asolo colors.”
Bronzini returns to Italy after leading Colavita/Forno D’Asolo to triumph at major races in the US and Canada. Bronzini won Canada’s Grand Prix de Gatineau, where she shared the podium with teammate Theresa Cliff-Ryan. At the Liberty Classic in Philadelphia, the biggest one-day race in the US, Bronzini, Cliff-Ryan, and Andrea Dvorak demonstrated the teamwork that has established Colavita/Forno D’Asolo as the top-ranked squad in USA Cycling’s NRC standings. With Dvorak setting the pace for mile after mile over the rigorous course, Colavita/Forno D’Asolo’s ace sprinters waited patiently in the field until the finishing straight when Cliff-Ryan gave Bronzini the nod to launch her world-famous sprint to cross the line in victory. Bronzini went on to win three stages at the Nature Valley Grand Prix in Minnesota.
At the Giro Donne, Bronzini is expected to sprint to more stage victories for Colavita/Forno D’Asolo. Last year, she took second in the first two stages and third in the final stage. Cliff-Ryan is also likely to deliver strong results. In 2010, racing with the US National Team, she was among the riders that helped the US secure its first-ever overall victory at the Giro Donne.
Heather Logan-Sprenger and Dvorak are also racing in peak form this season. Logan-Sprenger won road race stages at the San Dimas Stage Race and the SRAM Tour of the Gila. She and Dvorak both finished in the top 10 overall at the Redlands Bicycle Classic.
