Four On The Floor, Vos Speeds Toward Another Title – 23rd Giro Donne, Stage 7

The well of superlatives to describe Marianne Vos (Stichting Rabo Women) and her accomplishments may well run dry if she continues to win at her present and torrid rate.

Through seven stages of the 2012 Giro Donne, the defending champion has tallied a total of four victories on her way to the overall race lead. Her latest win was another masterful work by a young woman, who is unquestionably at the top of the women’s cycling world.

With the day's major break of twelve strong, including BePink teammates Noemi Cantele and Elke Gebhardt, Amanda Spratt (GreenEdge AIS), Jade Borgato (Diadora Pasta Zara), Shelley Olds (AA Drink Leontien.nl) Anna van der Breggen (The Netherlands), Ina Yoko Teutenberg (Specialized - Lulumenon), Marta Tagliaferro and Alessandra Borchi (Mcipollini Giambenini), Lise Nostvold (Hitec Products - Home Mistral), Liesbet De Vocht (Stichting Rabobank) and Romy Kasper (Rus Veil), pulled back after the intermediate sprint, which was won by Olds, the General Classification contenders took over on the final climb up the Camo.

As the roads kicked upwards, an attack by Emma Pooley (AA Drink - Leontien.nl) would draw out all the major players. But once again, it was on the descent where the maglia rosa wearer would show her championship form.

Vos' descending skills and late surge into Castagnole Lanze brought her to the line just ahead of Emma Johansson (Hitec Products - Mistral Home) and Fabiana Luperini (Faren Honda Team), who currently wears the maglia azzura as the race's best Italian rider.

"Now my efforts are concentrated on the pink jersey," stated the Dutch star. "The team was impeccable as always. "The last two stages? I like both. As you've seen I do not care what kind they are, I always try to give my best."
