On Friday, Marianne Vos (Stichting Rabo Women) won her fifth stage of the 2012 Giro Donne, equaling her win total from last year's race.
Vos took the three-up sprint in Lonate Pozzolo ahead of Judith Arndt (Orica-AIS) and Evelyn Stevens (Team Specialized - lululemon) to solidify her overall race lead.
"The primary goal is the pink jersey in Bergamo," said Vos. "But I felt really good, and the team has done an outstanding job in recent days, so I could not let this opportunity go. There were two strong riders [in the general classification], I could not let go of the sprint. What can I say more? I am glad."

Vos is one stage away from clinching back-to-back titles, which surprisingly has been done on six other occasions since the race's first running in 1988. The last rider to do so was Lithuanian, Edita Pučinskaitė, in 2006 and 2007.
Fabiana Luperini (Faren Honda Team), who currently sits in fourth place overall, has won the race a record five times, repeating twice from 1995 to 1998.
